Pay Attention Sportsman! Your rivers are potentially being considered "disposable".

3.368 million acres of public land in 10 states are being pushed in House Resolution 621 as being called "disposal land" by the Department of the Interior.  This designation was made in 1997 to support an Everglades Restoration project.  The ranked lands were ranked by secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt to be sold to pay for this project in Florida.

Some of the public land that could be sold of include

  • 27,300 acres surrounding the Shoshone River in Park county, WY below Cody.

  • 25,000 acres of land in Catron county, NM that contain "cultural resources" that abuts the Gila National Forest, home to the Gila trout.

  • 2,105 acres in Montrose county in CO that contains the Gunnison Gorge.
