“…all good things—trout as well as eternal salvation—come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy.” - Norman McLean, A River Runs Through It
The fly in the sport of fly fishing makes all the difference between having a successful day on the water or going home scratching your head wondering just what you could’ve done to change your fishing fortune. Whether not having the right fly, or losing too many flies to the trees and rocks, or even a gust of wind taking a handful of your expensive dry flies out of your box without permission, you start thinking about how you can make your life easier or less expensive by creating your own. Fly tyer A.K. Best is well known for the quote “You don’t know how to tie a fly until you’ve tied a thousand dozen of them.” No truer words have been spoken.
The hardest part about tying your own flies is learning the correct techniques. We offer our free Saturday classes every other weekend, but we decided to create better, more intensive instruction in a classroom setting. This class is more intensive than our weekend events, we give better, more personal and detailed instruction without the distractions of a busy shop atmosphere, and we assign homework. We WANT you to practice at home and really dedicate some time to getting better.
Join us at the shop for our shop Fly Tying School on Sunday afternoons (11am-1pm) or Monday evenings (7pm-9pm) for 4 consecutive weeks. We take a maximum of 5 students so your education is more personalized and detailed, and you’ll be required to have your own tools and threads for class. You’ll be entitled to a 10% discount on all fly tying materials for the duration of the class.
You’ll become a better fly tyer, will be able to fill your fly boxes more affordably, and you’ll make new friends in the process. If you’re interested please read below and shoot us a message to enroll.

Cancellations & Rescheduling Policies
Things happen. Kids and adults get sick. Emergencies come up last minute. Sometimes stuff happens, and we understand, but we plan and price our clinics so they’re affordable, and we take into consideration the time our instructors allocate to these events.
Cancellations made less than 30 days from the original clinic date are not refundable. If you cancel less than 30 days out from your original date requested, we will try to fill your seat or move you to another tying school date if available, but if we cannot, you forfeit your enrollment and tuition.
We will try our best to accommodate students who cancel more than 30 days from the clinic date by getting them into a class that works for their schedule, but if no date is available, student clinic dates may be pushed into the next session. We will not schedule a private class for students that need to reschedule.
