Fracking And Gas Pipelines Coming To A River Near You

Hancock, MD - Protestors marched through town to oppose a fracked gas pipeline proposal to move product from Pennsylvania to West Virginia by tunneling underneath the C&O Canal and beneath the Potomac River.

Columbia Gas Transmission has applied for a permit from the National Park Service to do survey work in the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park just west of Hancock. The park service is reviewing the permit.

If the survey permit is approved, the gas company would apply for a permit to begin digging a tunnel under the park and under the river.

The pipeline would take fracked gas from Pennsylvania and ship it to West Virginia and points east.
