David Cushman is a former Royalty Fly Tyer with Umpqua Feather Merchants. His fly pattern, the Great Lakes Goby made its debut in 2013 and is intended to target smallmouth bass in lakes, rivers and streams but is effective for other species of fish as well. The Great Lakes Goby was featured at the 2012 International Fly Tackle Dealer Show by Hatches Magazine. In addition, the Great Lakes Goby was also featured in The Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing for Carp, Tips and Tricks for the Determined Angler by Kirk Deeter (Published May 2013). He is continuing to develop other flies including the Bow-Legged Bunny series of flies and unique Cicada fly patterns.
David spends his time as a Special Agent with the US Secret Service. He was formerly a Virginia State Game Warden (now known as Virginia State Conservation Police) and a Law Enforcement Park Ranger for the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway. His continuing law enforcement career has spanned over 25 years. His outdoor professions have given David a unique perspective into fly fishing and the outdoor industry. David recently moved from the Northern Virginia area and currently resides in North Carolina with his wife and two young sons.
